Duane “Dewey” E. Adams of Port Clinton, died Saturday morning, January 14, at the Riverview Senior Healthcare Campus, in Oak Harbor, where he had been a resident. Dewey was born in Orville, Ohio on January 1, 1930 to Earl H. and Leahabelle W. (Ahrens) Adams.

Dewey was a welder by trade having worked for Bob Snyder Construction Co. and McCullough Construction, both of Port Clinton. During his career he worked on local projects including many of the marinas in the Port Clinton area. He retired in 1995 and for several years he taught welding at EHOVE Vocational School in Milan, Ohio. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors to their original condition which he did in his work shop. Much of his time was spent working on the tractors or traveling to antique tractor shows all over the country. Dewey was very interested in the Port Clinton area and over the years became an “expert” on its history, often relaying it to others. Dewey, for many years, was active in the Port Clinton Lions Club.

Dewey is survived by his children, Deborah Krofft, Judith (Ed LaBounty) Adams, Sally (Dave) Williamsen, John (Suzie) Adams, Chuck (Lisa) Adams and Barbara (Rob Brunk) Adams, 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, brother, Robert (Lenore) Adams and his former wife, Mary Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandchild and his former wife Marilyn.

A funeral service will be conducted for Dewey at 6 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St. Port Clinton 43452. Visitation will be held, in the funeral home, from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at a later date in the Catawba Island Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials for Dewey be directed to the Catawba Island Fire Department, 4730 E. Cemetery Rd., Port Clinton, OH 43452, the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 2500 N. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH 43615 or to the Donor’s Choice. Online condolences may be made to the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
