Throughout her years in Port Clinton, Mary was active with her husband in his many memberships in the Knights of Columbus, Elks, Moose, Eagles and American Legion as well as a lifelong membership at Catawba Island Club.
The causes of death were wear from a long life well lived and a desire to reunite with her husband, Harry, and her son Kraig Paneff. Mary was also predeceased by her beloved mother, Wilma DeVore, brother, William Alonzo Walker, sister Wilma Bugler and stepson Bernie Heineman. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kirk Paneff, Mary Jo Paneff, Keith Paneff, Jill (Hutch) Strahm, grandson, Michael Paneff, great granddaughter, Maria Smedlund, sister, Margaret Gibson, brother-in-law, Louis Heineman, and sister-in-law, Justine Bianchi. Also surviving are stepchildren, Norman (Kathy) Heineman, Zauzi Travis, Philip (Carol) Heineman, Monica Heineman, Cecelia (Dale) Farmer, Stephen Heineman, Otto (Christine) Heineman, Ida (John) Larsen and Thomas Heineman as well as 17 step grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren.
After the Heineman Beverage distributorship was sold, Mary donated the building in which it was housed in honor of all her husband, Harry, had done for the Port Clinton community. The building now known as the Heineman Center at 301 W. Second St., Port Clinton, Ohio 43452 now houses the Portage Resale Center which sells gently used merchandise for the benefit of Ottawa County family charities. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Portage Resale Center, a 5019(c)(3) organization or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton St. Port Clinton, with visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Private burial services will be held at Mapleleaf Cemetery, Put-in-Bay.
